The THW (Technisches Hilfswerk) is Germany´s Federal Agency for Technical Relief, dedicated to emergency response, civil protection, and humanitarian aid. Around 88,000 people are engaged as volunteers in 668 local THW organisations throughout Germany. The so-called "blue fire brigades" are competent partners to fire brigades, the police and aid organisations in averting dangers and mitigating the consequences of accidents and disasters.
Join us for an immersive, two-hour session at our base near Düsseldorf Airport, where you´ll be introduced to the THW and its specialized units. Participants will gain valuable insights into the organization’s operations and its critical role in disaster relief. In addition, there will be a hands-on opportunity to explore THW vehicles and operate heavy rescue equipment. 100% of proceeds go towards the procurement of much needed equipment for our work. We welcome attendees of all ages and abilities, promising an engaging and action-packed afternoon!
Please note that despite being a federal agency the THW is almost completely run by volunteers; Mensa thus made a donation. If you´ve enjoyed the afternoon and would like to support these engaged women and men further, feel free to make your personal donation on site - purely optional of course.
Notes
Normal clothing and footwear are sufficient, please avoid light footwear (e.g. sandals).
The premises are barrier-free and impaired participants are most welcome but might not be able to join all activities offered.
